Recoil, pull away

(몸을 홱 뿌리치다. (화 났을 때)

Recoil is to draw back or to pull away. Recoil is used a lot when speaking of a firearm being discharged. Usually after a firearm is discharged the pressure of the gun will cause the hand to recoil which also means that the hand will move backwards.

 

Talk back, retort.

(말 대꾸하다.)

To talk back or to retort is when a person replies to another person, usually in a sharp or retaliatory way. For example, two people can have a disagreement and talk back to each other in an argument.

 

Refuse to comply with one’s wishes (=orders) 

(남의 소원이나 명령을 따르기를 거부한다.)

This statement is used to decline or refuse someone else’s wishes. To refuse to comply with one’s wishes also means not to follow orders.

 

Standard response (=reaction) for anybody

(누구에게나 똑같이 반응(행동) 한다.)

A standard response or reaction for anybody simply means that the reaction given in response to something is similar to anybody else’s response. For example, a group of people will have the standard response of happiness and congratulating the person at a mutual friend’s birthday.

 

(Be) Defensive, (Be) Guarded

(방어적인 행동을 취하다.)

To be defensive is to be protective of something. A person can be defensive or guarded when being attacked by someone else. Also if a person has been hurt before by something, that person can be guarded so that same thing won’t happen again.

 

Refute/Refutation

(반박하다. 반박)

The word refute is used to prove a person to be in error. To prove someone wrong or to be false can also describe refute.

 

Elicit, steal

(남의 아이디어 등을 훔치다.)

Elicit is to draw out or to provoke a reaction from a person. Steal can be used with elicit by saying that the person is trying to provoke or steal a reaction from a person.
